Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav 75 Years of Independence Day Quiz

Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav: 75 Glorious Years of Independence

India celebrates Independence Day every year on 15 August as a national holiday to mark the nation's independence from the United Kingdom on that day on 15th August 1947, when the 1947 Indian Independence Act became effective, transferring legally to the Indian Constituent Assembly. King George VI remained in power until India became a republic on 26 January 1950, when the Constitution of India was adopted. With the enactment of the sovereign law Constitution of India, the dominion prefix was replaced with the sovereignty prefix.

The establishment of independence coincided with the partition of British India, which was divided into the Dominions of India and Pakistan. There were violent riots and mass casualties during the partition. The Indian National Flag was raised above the Lahori Gate of the Red Fort on 15 August 1947 by Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India in Delhi. Each Independence Day, the incumbent Prime Minister raises the flag and addresses the nation.

On August 15 (Independence Day), the tricolour is tied at the bottom of the pole. The Prime Minister then raises (pulls) it up and hoists it with the aim to honour the historical event of Independence Day.

While, on the occasion of Republic Day (January 26), the national flag remains closed and tied up on the top of the pole, which is then unfurled without pulling it up. This activity is mainly done in order to mark that the nation or a country is already independent.

Why the flag unfurled On Republic Day But hoisted On Independence Day?

We Indians honor the Indian national flag on the independence day and republic day, but in two different ways.

We Indians honor the Indian national flag on the independence day and republic day, but in two different ways.

On Independence Day, the Indian tri-colour is tied at the bottom of the flagpole and then the Prime Minister of India pulled up for hoisting. This is done to mark the Independence of the country from British Rule and to signify the first time that the tri-colour was honored on the same day in 1947

On the Republic Day celebrations, the flag is already tied up on the top and is unfurled without pulling it up, which depicts that the country is already independent.

The national flag of India, known as the Tiranga, meaning tricolor, was adopted on July 22, 1947, by the Constituent Assembly. It is made from khadi, domestically spun Indian cotton, as a symbol of nationalism and freedom. It has three equal horizontal bands. The top band consists of saffron, which represents strength and courage. The middle part is white, which denotes honesty, purity, and peace of the nation. The bottom is green, indicating prosperity, fertility, and growth.

There are 24 spokes evenly spaced around the chakra. In the Hindu religion, 24 rishis wield the entire power of the gayatri mantra, which contains 24 letters. All 24 spokes of the dharma chakra represent the 24 rishis of the Himalayas, with Vishvamitra first and Yajnavalkya last. The Ashoka Chakra is also known as the samay chakra, in which the 24 spokes represent the 24 hours of the day, symbolizing the passage of time. The Ashoka Chakra is navy blue on a white background, replacing the symbol of the Charkha on the pre-independence version of the flag. The Chakra signifies that there is life in movement and death in stagnation, representing the dynamism of a peaceful change. India should not resist change, but rather move forward.
