All About Magnetic Therapy
Magnets have been used throughout
history. The first magnets might have been discovered and used by ancient
civilizations of Greeks, Chinese, and Romans. Magnetism's history dates back to
600 BCE, when the Greek philosopher Thales of Miletus mentioned Lodestone in
his writings. Modern-day magnets were named after a lodestone found in
Magnesia, Anatolia, in Ancient Greece. Magnetic compasses were used extensively
for navigation in Europe and China during the 12th and 13th centuries AD. Arab's
geography and navigational sciences made use of a magnetic compass and a
rudimentary instrument known as a “kamal”, used for celestial navigation and
for measuring the altitudes and latitudes of the stars. In China, between 1040
and 1117, the magnetic compass was developed and applied to navigation. This
let mariners continue sailing a course when the weather limited the visibility
of the sky.
Magnets are ancient from the
prehistoric period. The actual discovery of magnetism came out through the tongue
of storytellers. A story goes like this.
About 4,000 years ago, in northern Greece, in the region of Magnesia
(Present Turkey) a shepherd named Magnes was out herding his sheep when the
metal nails in his shoes stuck to a black rock. That rock was magnetite and it
contained lodestone. (Lodestone is an ore of iron oxide (Fe3O4), a piece of
magnetite or another naturally magnetized mineral, that can be used as a
magnet). Anyhow, tracing back to the invention of magnets is not the primary
aim of this article, and so we must divert to our subject of discussion.
Before discussing the healing
properties of magnetic therapy on the human body, one should understand the
very basic properties of magnets.
What is a magnet?
Objects that generate their magnetic
forces are magnets. In other words, materials that exert a noticeable force on
other materials without physically touching them are called magnets. This force
can either attract or repel. Most materials have some magnetic force, though
they may be small. In some materials, the magnetic force is so large that they
are called magnets. The Earth is also a huge magnet.
Magnetic poles are the ends of the
magnet south pole (S) and north pole (N) where the magnetic force is the
greatest. The magnets will draw toward each other if the south poles of one are
aligned with the north poles of the other.

Two bar magnets with opposite poles are strongly attracted to one another by their magnetic fields. Magnetic fields are usually invisible to us, but if you sprinkle iron filings (tiny bits of iron shaved off with a file) on a piece of paper and hold it above magnets, you can see them.
The magnetic field describes how
magnetic charges move, electric currents flow, and magnetic materials are
affected by magnetic fields. Magnetic fields play an important role in modern
technology, particularly in electrical engineering and electromechanical
systems. Rotating magnetic fields are used in both electric motors and
generators. Magnetic fields interact with one another in electric devices, as
transformers are conceptualized and investigated as magnetic circuits. Magnets'
magnetic fields attract objects despite being invisible.
What Is Magnetic Therapy?
The use of magnetic fields as an
alternative form of medicine for dealing with adverse clinical conditions is
known as magnetic therapy. Magnetic field therapy uses different kinds of
magnets on the human body to help boost your overall health.
Static magnets generate a therapeutic
magnetic field that can be applied to a variety of health problems for pain
relief and recovery.
Today, many people use magnet therapy
for pain management. Physiotherapists, acupuncturists, massage therapists,
neurologists, nutritionists, sports performance trainers, vets and
rehabilitation centers may be surprised by the latest magnetic therapy
advances.
Painaustralia (International
Association for the Study of Pain - IASP) published the following painful facts
in their website.
3.24 million (~16%) Australians were
living with chronic pain
People with chronic pain are 5 times as
likely as those without pain to be limited a lot in daily activities. Productivity
losses associated with chronic pain were estimated in 2020 at $49.74 BILLION
Reduction in quality of life is
estimated in 2020 at $46.66 BILLION
These studies also point to unhealthy
treatment practices. A number of painful conditions have been shown to benefit
from magnetic therapy, which makes it worth exploring further.
Scientists have specifically studied its use for: Arthritis pain, Wound healing, Insomnia, Headaches, and Fibromyalgia pain.
Who Shouldn’t Use It
While it’s generally safe for most people
to wear low-intensity static magnets, it’s not a good idea to have magnetic
field therapy if you:
Use a pacemaker
Have an insulin pump
Are pregnant
You should also take off any magnets
before having an X-ray or getting an MRI.

Magnetic field therapy has rare side
effects
Cleopatra might have been the first
historical figure to use magnetic therapy, as she was known to sleep on magnets
or boulders to keep her skin young. It is also possible that ancient rulers
wore metal headbands and bracelets to protect themselves.
There are two different theories around
how magnetic therapy works. One of which is that it increases circulation in
the body. An increase in blood flow is great for injuries and can facilitate a
certain speed of healing and efficiency of healing the tissue. This makes
perfect sense because when you increase blood circulation, you're both feeding
the tissue and allowing it to remove waste products as well. Increasing blood
flow will stimulate cell metabolism, and heal and rehabilitate unhealthy
tissues.
The other theory involved here is that
because of the modern structures that we've created on this world in terms of
ecological disorder on this earth, we're blocking our body's experience of the
earth's natural magnetic properties. The earth has a certain magnetic
propensity for it, and we're blocking it with these structures. So in a sense,
magnetic therapy would ground us and bring us back into the presence of that
particular aspect of the earth.
In India, Ebiotorium company is a pioneer in manufacturing
biomagnetic products in alternative therapy field. Their product list includes,
biomagnetic mattresses, biomagnetic bracelets, water energy pads, and many other
biomagnetic products. Since 2008, Ebiotorium
has been manufacturing advanced modern bio and nanotechnology products and has
been engaged in import and export distribution supply business. This is especially beneficial for people
suffering from insomnia, arthritis, fibromyalgia, migraines, backaches, skin
problems, and other kinds of body pains. People who regularly get restful
nights have fewer aches, lower blood pressure, and enjoy a better quality of
life.
Biomagnetic mattresses are said to help reduce morning aches, promote deeper and more recuperative sleep, and reduce stress to generate relaxation. When pressure points on the body are stimulated by magnetic fields, it is said that blood flow to those areas increases. The increased blood flow supposedly allows more oxygen and nutrients to reach the cells, promoting a faster healing process.
Biomagnetic mattresses increase blood circulation towards
your cold body extremities and help you warm up when you are cold. Magnets can
reduce heart rate and blood pressure. As we age, the blood vessels in our body
narrow, which causes poor circulation. Poor circulation leads to swelling,
pain, stiffness, and sometimes cramping of the muscles. The magnets can open up
the vessels and help improve circulation.
Biomagnetic mattresses are known to alleviate body pains
such as backaches, knee pain, headaches, and migraines. The magnetic therapy help reduce
muscle contractions, improve overall blood flow, and relieve pain in bones,
joints, and muscles. The magnets used in Biomagnetic mattresses have different
strengths. They are arranged in a way that creates a magnetic field that can
penetrate human skin. This means that the magnets can reach the inner muscles
and joints, where they can do their work in relieving pain.
Biomagnetic mattresses are believed to heal torn muscles, and ligaments. When a part of the body is injured, positive ions assemble in the affected area causing pain and swelling. Biomagnetic therapy has been used to relieve pain for centuries. When someone is injured, their body will release positive ions that accumulate around the site of injury causing swelling and pain. The negative ions in the Biomagnetic Mattress are believed to neutralize these positive ions, relieving pain and restoring the body’s natural healing process.
